Music & Movement

Infant - age 6

Imagine gathering with families around the biggest drum you’ve ever seen.

Children explore the drum with fingers and hands to a lively blues tune. Parents smile, children giggle and everyone moves together.

Imagine the drum becoming a boat with young riders aboard. We sing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” while parents take turn playing the ukulele. Brightly colored glockenspiels wait with xylophones for little musicians to bring them to life through creative ensembles.

Your child discovers the joy in sharing a musical idea and experiencing it in the music they are making.

Puppets come alive and eyes light up as children eagerly wait for their turn to sing to Cocoa the Horse, the Little Clown or the Gray Squirrel.

The piano keys signal an invitation to make beautiful music, weaving the threads of piano playing into the experience of music making. Your young student is fully prepared for Simply Music© - playing-based piano lessons - through their participation in our early childhood component.

 Class Options:

1. We Make Music: Infant - 3 years

You and your child will sing, dance, and play instruments in this Mommy & Me class. Your child will be encouraged to sing while developing listening, pitch-matching, and language skills.

Concepts like high and low, soft and loud, up and down are taught in a game-like setting. Puppets, felts and props enhance your child’s music-making experience.

This class also improves your child’s coordination; a sense of timing, phrase, and form develops through movement and playing. Your child will learn to express their feelings productively as their imagination and ability to focus are developed and their self-confidence is strengthened.

2. Young Musicians: 4 - 6 years

Your child will love this action-packed, social, creative music class.

This class continues teaching the elements of music through singing, playing, exploring, and moving. Your child will make the arrangements (an introduction to writing their own music) and accompany themselves as they sing.

Using Orff instruments introduces numerous parts for students to play as a group, strengthening their sense of timing, listening skills, and concentration.

The Young Musicians class will prepare your child for the next stage in their musical journey, the Simply Music© piano program.
